Door County is a great place for boating. Lots of tree lined beaches, majestic bluffs and beautiful islands large and small. You can sail to Door County from any place on the Great Lakes or you can a rent boat locally.
Fishing On open water or through the ice, Door County has some of the best fishing to be found in the Midwest. Walleye, bass, brown trout, northern pike, lake trout, salmon, and pan fish can be found in abundance and record sizes in our lakes and streams. Bring your own boat and tackle or let one of many experienced charter captains put you in touch with trophy fun.
With the bay of Green Bay on one side and Lake Michigan on the other, Door Countys 300 miles of shoreline enclose not only the Midwests choice vacation destination, but scenic golf courses as well. Golf courses that will challenge you, whatever your skill level. And all surrounded by Door Countys natural beauty and a carefree atmosphere that allows you to really relax after the spikes are cleaned and the score cards tallied.
Islands The Islands surrounding the Door County Peninsula make the county a boaters dream. Drop anchor in a cove and take a swim or drop a line. Landlubbers can also get the island experience. No visit to Door County would be complete without a trip to our most famous island, Washington Island. Ferry across Deaths Door to an enchanting land of art, history, folklore and recreation. Dont miss Door Countys northernmost State Park, Rock Island. Accessible only by boat, there are no vehicles allowed on the island making it the perfect spot to really get away from it all.
Ten lighthouses protected the ships traversing the hazardous waters around Door County. Many are open to the public during the summer and fall and almost all are included in the May lighthouse walk.
Nightlife From a nostalgic trip to the Skyway Drive In Movie Theater (know to the locals as The Outdoor) to great homegrown Rock & Roll Door County glows after sunset. Spend the evening t Americas Oldest Professional Resident Summer Theater, The Peninsula Players. The whole family will enjoy American Folklore Theatres original musical productions under the stars in Peninsula State Park. Catch a set or two of Homegrown Rock, Country or Blues at a restaurant or pub. As you can see, the choices are many.
State and Local Parks With five state parks, 18 county parks and countless local parks, Door County offers recreational opportunities from shore to shore.
For those who love the performing arts, Door County offers too much to experience in one visit. Peninsula Players has been delighting audiences since 1935 at its shoreline setting just south of Fish Creek. American Folklore Theatre offers musical theater under the stars in Peninsula State Park during the summer, and indoors with a popular fall series. From mid-July to mid-August, Door Shakespeare brings the Bard to life outdoors in the lush garden at Bjorklunden in Baileys Harbor. The Door Community Auditorium in Fish Creek features headliner entertainment year-round. Third Avenue Playhouse offers year-round plays, concerts and performances by professionals and talented locals in the heart of downtown Sturgeon Bay. There are also great community theatre companies in the county including the Island Players founded in 1984 performing on Washington Island and Isadoora Theatre Company founded in 2001 performing countywide.
